The Journey Begins
We are embarking on an adventure with Hannah. As we’ve been researching the past few months, we have determined that Hannah is exhibiting autistic symptoms. We do not (at this point) want to put her through formal screenings and all that hoop-jumping in order to slap a label on her. Therefore, we’re approaching her development like we have the rest of our home schooling. We are researching approaches and resources that are available in order to tailor make her education and training. (If this sounds a bit stilted and formal, it’s because I’m trying to sound logical and not mommy emotional.
)
We believe God has led us to a possible helpful tool and are planning to begin implementing one-on-one intensive training sessions with her beginning Monday. Please pray! This is new to all of us and we feel a sense of urgency to do it right without wasting any more time. At the beginning it will require another hour of my day devoted to her, six days a week. Pray specifically that I will willingly and trustingly follow the Lord’s leading for what to do when (i.e., my editorial work, homemaking chores, time with the older girls, schoolwork for the older girls, time with John, mommy time, etc.).
This may sound funny, but in my spirit I’m also anticipating a spiritual battle over her. I feel a little akin to the parents who begged Jesus to deliver their children from the evil spirits that oppressed them. Pray for the name, blood, and power of Jesus to completely surround our sessions, and that the enemy will be banned from interfering.
Thanks for lifting us before the throne.
